Astrud Gilberto - Summer Suite Part 1
I'm a big fan of Astrud Gilberto, She's a good example of how artists with less than perfect voices are far more appealing and interesting than singers who are technically faultless.
On the album Holiday she sings a mixture of soft love songs and energetic pieces like Chicago's Beginnings and Harry Nilsson's Don't Leave Me
She even extends this energy to the Bee Gee's Holiday which is usually sung in a maudlin sort of way, such as in Claudine's version here.
I think one of the few disappointments on the album is her version of Light My Fire. It's one of those songs that lounge singers can really make work but her version lacks the oomph that some of the other tracks have.
However this is more than made up for by songs like Let Go (Canto De Ossanha) and the lovely Summer Suite Part 1.
I'm afraid this old ex radio station copy is a bit worn out so the sound is less than ideal , but I thought the music deserved to be talked about on my blog anyway - enjoy.
